Welcome Back!

Yay! I missed these kiddos so much and was so happy to hear that everyone had a great break! Thank you for sending them back today...I'm sure you were so sad to get back to your typical schedule and a clean and quiet house. :) Anyway, we spent the beginning part of the morning sharing about our break, decluttering, cleaning and organizing our materials in order to begin the year on a good note. We wrote more specific goals (hopefully you can read your child's goal from the picture below...?) and then jumped right into our academics.

In Writer's Workshop, we will be writing a narrative, informational or opinion piece from start to finish by the end of Writing on Friday. We are going to focus on the ENTIRE writing process-especially revising and editing to make our writing the best it can be for a 4th grade student. Mrs. Stewart was eager to be traded to Sequin in The Beaded Moccasins but as she said, anything is better than where she is now. We took some time to read and blog or visit the library during Reader's Workshop and then had Gym, lunch and OUTDOOR recess--brr! After recess, we tried to calm ourselves during quiet time but we were very, very chatty today. Finally, we had a fraction number talk and discussed how we can compare fractions with same denominators or same numerators. Then, we used what we know to complete tasks about the WHOLE. If I ate a piece of pizza and Drew ate a piece of pizza, did we eat the same amount? Well, it depends on the whole...large or small pizza? from where? We ended Math Workshop by playing fraction war with partners. In Science, we started a K-W-L chart about fossils~our new subject!
