Better!
This week, we worked on transitioning quietly and without socializing. Today, we finally did a good job with it and earned a potato head piece for our hallway walking and Art! In our morning meeting, we discussed new roles as a 4th grader--Safety Patrol and News Crew. We also discussed our goal of transitioning quietly and revisited all the posters we've been making about school and what we are supposed to do here-LEARN! Then, we went on a word hunt for the high frequency words on our list. (I found since a lot!) Next, we wrote our Important Paragraphs...The important thing about ___ is ___. What is your kiddo's most important thing? In Wonder, Auggie saw the beginning of how mean kids can be. It is also his first day of school! I introduced StoryWorks-a literacy magazine that we will be using for Reader' Workshop. We read the fiction story and perused the magazine. We got "book worms" too for "Real" reading. :) This afternoon, after our Number Talk, Mrs. Firestone-our literacy and math coach for ADE, came in to get to the know the class and played, "Clear the Board" with them. It's a game that I'm sure we'll re-visit over and over again this year. The video we watched today was about how we NEED to make mistakes in math for our brain to grow. It's another really good one. You may be able to find it on you tube--by Jo Boaler. We persevered through solving Pascal's Triangle. It was tough but I saw a TON of mathematical thinking! Loved it! Finally, our day ended with completing our Ohio Posters.
