TGIF
Ask your kiddo what my TGIF stands for. :) For morning meeting today, we focused on the Pledge of Allegiance with it being September 11. We read, The Flag We Love and discussed our country's flag as a symbol of our country and the freedom it represents. Then, we discussed the vocabulary of the Pledge and what we are really saying when we say our Pledge each day. We did a little cut and paste and coloring activity too-just for fun. Next, it was time to personalize our Writer's Notebooks! Oh my goodness-this was fun and messy but made them take ownership for this place as their place to keep ideas. We didn't get to read Wonder today as we took extra time personalizing... We also had a shortened Reader's Workshop but were able to still read independently, visit the library and complete our Wordle about ourselves if we hadn't yet. Music was fun and we even earned a potato head piece for our hallway behavior getting there! After lunch and recess, I was surprised and little happy to see that they were bummed that we weren't having a Number Talk. (That might sound bad but I love that they like this learning portion of our day!) Anyway, they weren't bummed for too long when I brought the computers in and they saw that we would be working on them instead. We learned a little about ST Math and then did our password training and even began some of the challenges too. Our day ended with a Maps and Globes review with making a book. I'm glad we did it too because they needed it!
