Wow.

Oh my goodness--we LOVE to talk! It isn't the ENTIRE class and I'm starting to notice the repeat offenders with being overly chatty and loud. We'll take one more day with reminders and warnings but you may be receiving written notice about talking with your child about their behavior. Every student shall be safe and able to learn and if we're loud and talking, that's not possible.

Morning meeting was greeting each other by name with an "H"-ask your kiddo what this is. Then, we shared what we had for breakfast (a lot of sugar!) then we played a High/Low game where we practiced talking loud and soft. For Word Study today, we played Spelling Roll-a-word with our high frequency words. This was good practice to review what definition, synonym and antonyms are. Next week, we'll get new words. We worked in our Writer's Notebooks again today and this time went outside to capture what we can see and hear. (Check out twitter for pictures!) Auggie expressed his sensitive side today in Wonder and how hard and exhausting it is to be brave. All in all, his first month at school has been ok, I think. Our character focus then led us to make a list of character traits. We then used these to: create a Wordle about ourselves, read independently and write down characteristics of the main character from our book. We made it to Art--a little late because we had difficulty lining up... However, Mrs. Bowers said Art went very well. Our Number Talk focused again on using "friendly" numbers to help solve larger problems-- 116 + 29 = Next, we got our Pre-tests back and set a goal for this unit. We also came up with ideas on how to best reach our goal. During work time, we also completed a task on dividing newspapers and played "Clear the Board." Our Math Chat revealed that we feel strengths and weaknesses in this unit and set goals so that we have an endpoint or destination and know what we need to do to get there. Finally, our day ended with Science Inquiry.
