We had a great morning meeting where we decided that we want a special handshake or greeting just for our class so we are trying to figure it out. Then, we shared about things we are proud of from over the weekend: cleaning or helping clean up, getting a new TV and winning games were some of the responses. We played popl with multiples of 5 and wrote new goals. Our focus as a class this week is for quiet work time. Since we are using the same short vowel words from last week, we completed some practice sheets where we had to pick out the short vowel word from a pair of words. Then, in Writer's Workshop, we continued on with where we left off in the writing process. We began to hear from Summer in Wonder and why she is friends with the "freak." (She doesn't call him this and doesn't really understand why everyone else does either.) Auggie finally decided to trust her and her friendship. We had a VERY short Reader's Workshop because we had a community meeting to talk about the upcoming Community Cardboard Challenge. I urge you to check out Cain's Arcade on YouTube which is where we got the idea for this amazing day of play. I can't wait for October 10! (I'm going to show the video to the class tomorrow for meeting.) We had a fantastic assembly and gym so we earned 2 potato head pieces! We used our quiet time today for a purpose and completed a learning styles survey using Kidzmet. We don't want the district to know each kid by a test score so this is a way to personalize learning for them. All students in the district, K-12, are taking this survey! We had some technical hiccups but it was fine. I started panicking when I looked at the lesson outline for math and realized that we are on Day 16 of the unit. Great! However, the test is on Day 21... Ahhhh! I wasn't confident that we were there yet so today, we practiced and identified our needs as individuals. I worked with those that needed my assistance and I think we are in a better place now. I also realized when computing 10x bigger that A LOT of them do not know their basic multiplication facts so that is homework this week-to practice our facts. In Science, we completed our Fairy Tale challenges and recognized that they were better teams or groups this time around. Kudos! We didn't get to Wonder time today but I'm hoping we do tomorrow.
