There?
We began our day with goal setting in our morning meeting. We read, There, which discussed where There is and will we know when we get There? Through our conversation, we realized that our There's can all be different and there are different paths and journeys to get to our own There. Then, we set a goal for the day. Just a small, S.M.A.R.T. goal for the day. Once we reach our daily goals, we'll set longer goals but thought it better to start small. In Word Study, we took a pre-test and made our new lists. This was a process! Sometimes I wonder if these kiddos had TOO many choices and now just hate to follow specific details and directions! :) Then, we went to the Library Media Center and had a lesson with Mrs. Richardson about genres. This will help us tremendously with our 30-book challenge. Did your kiddo share this with you yet? Discussing this challenge took up the remaining time we had before special. We had a number talk after recess and while students are sharing great strategies, they seem to be stagnant in trying a more efficient one-we'll keep working on this. Our focus for Math Workshop today was the place and value of numbers. Yes, those terms are different. Each number has a place (ones, tens, hundreds...) but also a value (in 123, 456 the 4 is worth 400 but is in the hundreds place.) This is going to be a big focus so please help your kiddo to keep these terms separate. Finally, we ended our day with Science and working with our balance inquiry.
